Dastan played by Jake Gyllenhaal is positioned as an orphaned boy who is found in the marketplace by the Persia King, who adopts him. After his adoption the movie flashes forward to an adult Dastan. Dastan heads of with his brothers Tus, Garsiv and his Uncle Nizam to assault the holy city.
In the Holy City they find the Princess Tamina who is the guardian of the dagger. The King is killed and Dastan is blamed. Dastan is now on the run for his life with Tamina along for the ride. Dastan sets out to uncover the secrets of the dagger, find out who killed his father and clear his name.
Prince of Persia is a good vs evil, hero vs villian story. What makes it a great watch is all the Parkour performed by Dastan and crew - Dastan is constantly performing CGI enhanced hand-to-hand fighting and jumping all over the place in style... its a fun ride.
Its more a serious fantasy/action movie but a few laughs are thrown in by the gambling lord and the conflict between the Prince and Princess.
Prince of Persia is similar in style to Pirates of the Carribean and Kingdom of Heaven. Overall if your looking for a movie that will intellectually stimulate you than look elsewhere, but if you want to be taken on a action fueled-sword-smashing journey then pop open the dvd player and insert Prince of Persia.
